VILLAGE BOARD MEETING MINUTES - JANUARY 4, 2010

Winterfest meeting opened at 7:00 pm.

Members present: Mayor Skeet, Trustees Russ, Peterson and Sobczak; Village Historian Al Starkweather; Village residents Dave Bielec, John Conti and Pat Newton; Local Scout troop leaders Sal Ianni and Steve Coddington and Jess Markel, District Executive of Boy Scouts.

Mayor Skeet informed the group that Town representative Pete Sformo relayed the message that the Community Band may not participate if the entertainment is to be located in a tent.  Consensus was that from past experience, the tent would most likely be warmer than the hall.  According to conversation with Mr. Weiler of Sterling Tents it can be heated up to 80 degrees.  Mayor Skeet said he would try to contact Mr. Weiler regarding the floor and stage.

He also informed the group that Village Maintenance has begun pushing the snow up for a sledding hill.  The hill is being shifted to the back corner and the skating rink will be about 46’ x 70’.  He questioned whether the Boy Scouts could set up a camping display outdoors.  It was agreed they could.  Sal Ianni said they would like to set up a display with photos and information inside as well.

Steve Coddington said the Cub Scouts were planning on having a campfire with roasted marshmallows and s’mores, as well as the game “Whack-a-scout”. Some discussion took place regarding a ceremony for presenting the scouts with patches in appreciation, and serving a BSA 100th Anniversary themed cake and ice cream after the ceremony.  It was agreed that the ceremony would take place at 2:30 pm.  Steve Coddington mentioned having the scouts do the “Noonday Grace” prior to serving the cake.

Jess Markel mentioned some videos he could provide to be set up at a booth for information on scouting.  Sal Ianni said their troop is meeting Wednesday and will discuss their participation.  Mr. Markel said he would order the patches for the ceremony through the Scout Store.

Dave Bielec said the youth group at the Catholic Church would be interested in selling pizza.  It was agreed that late afternoon and evening was the best time for it.
Pat Newton said she still has the tarp and twine for the donut contest and will take care of rest of supplies.

Glenn Russ said he would contact the DJ from last year.  He and Tom Sobczak said they would also work on getting together a PA system for the event.  If they couldn’t get something together Mayor Skeet said he would contact the school.  Tom Sobczak said John LaMond would be there at about 3:00 pm to emcee after his radio show.

Mayor Skeet mentioned he would contact Dairy Princess Shelley Reynolds regarding the ice cream, Darien Lake to see if they would provide a character for the kids, Deputy Thompson regarding his K-9 demonstration.

Clerk Thomas said she would contact Paula at Doritex regarding runners again this year, contact Paul Shuler regarding balloons, take care of Pennysaver advertising and confirm whether the Horse and Carriage will be able to maneuver on Snipery.

Mayor Skeet said he would like to have Dorothy Lawrence attend the next meeting so she can do an article for the Daily News.  Clerk Thomas said she would talk with Ms. Lawrence regarding a blurb in the Presbyterian Church Bulletin.  Mayor Skeet mentioned he saw it in the Catholic Church bulletin.

Next meeting was set for Monday January 18th at 7:00 PM.

Meeting broke up at 8:10 PM.
