VILLAGE BOARD MEETING MINUTES - MAY 1, 2006
Corfu Family days meeting opened by Mayor Skeet at 7:09 pm.
Members present: Mayor Skeet, Trustees Peterson, Patterson and Sobczak. Also present were village resident Scott Lang and Village historian Allan Starkweather. Trustee Russ was absent.
- Clerk went over changes on Budget with Trustees (see attached).
- Trustee Peterson discussed Public meeting and expressed disappointment with the Board agreeing to the cut back in the Mayor’s salary. Trustee Patterson made the suggestion to add back an additional $500.00 to the $3500.00 proposed Mayor salary. Mayor Skeet felt the budget should stay at the $3500.00 amount.
- Motion was made by Trustee Patterson and seconded by Trustee Sobczak to adopt the proposed amended and revised budget for Fiscal year 2006 – 2007.
Voting Ayes: Mayor Skeet, Trustees Patterson and Sobczak.
Nays: Trustee Peterson.
Motion carried.
- Clerk informed the Board of three interviews set up for seasonal officers on May 2nd, beginning at 6:30 pm.
- Brief discussion was held regarding part-time maintenance position interviews. The Board would like Phil Jenkins to appear at meeting Monday, May 8 for full Board interview.
- Mayor Skeet reviewed with the Board the original purpose of the Village reinstituting Corfu Family Day with a main focus on creating a positive image of the Village Police force, stressing that he would like to maintain that purpose. He mentioned he has spoken with the president of Mercy Flight and there is a good chance they may possibly make an appearance and land in the Skeet’s back yard.
- The Board discussed setting up various committees. One of the ideas discussed was having a ceremony to honor Veterans and our men in uniform. Trustee Patterson said she would talk with Debbie Conti regarding obtaining a list of Veterans from the tax roll for the Village.
- Trustee Peterson said he would go to the recruiting office in Batavia and see if there was anything they could contribute. It was mentioned to have some type of certificate to present to those veterans and servicemen in attendance.
- Some of the other possibilities discussed to take care of before the next meeting were:
- Mayor Skeet would handle talking to the Union Hotel and Bill Dix of the lumberyard regarding use of property and possibly electricity. He also said he would speak with Karen Lang regarding Craft booths.
- Resident Scott Lang said he knew someone who has a one wheel bicycle to tie in with the bicycle safety/history theme. He also volunteered to speak with Louis Reeb about any aid Pepsi might be willing to give. He also said he would be willing to talk with Kiwanis and PYA about setting up booths, and possibly speak with Ron Weiler about the use of a tent.
- Trustee Peterson said he would speak with the Youth fellowship of the Presbyterian Church regarding possibly doing some children’s games.
- Clerk Thomas mentioned speaking to Audrey Mosier regarding the singing group “Crossroads of Harmony” to hopefully perform. Clerk will also put a call in to Don Sharick to see if Community band still performs at that time of year.
- Trustee Sobczak said he would check with a friend of his regarding the DJ for the street dance.
- Mayor Skeet said he has spoken with Darien Lake about the possibility of getting a couple of Looney Tune characters to make an appearance.
- During the meeting there was a phone call from Bruce Ruark who performs as Mr.No the clown. The Board discussed his terms and the Clerk is to get back to him on Wednesday about a possible booking for some additional entertainment for the children. His specialty is elaborate balloon animals.
- Other ideas touched on were having prizes and giveaways, the Sheriff’s remote car Shadow, Kaen’s Tai Kwan Do demonstrations.
- Clerk Thomas showed the Board Bicycle safety information she has gotten so far and mentioned the possibility of a grant through Walmart for obtaining Bicycle helmets. She also mentioned having contacted John Roche of Adam Miller Toys to come and give some bicycle safety tips, and having contacted the Bicycle Museum in Buffalo for possible brochures and information.
- The Board was informed that the VFW has said they will be getting the Bounce House again this year and don’t intend to charge the children to use it.
- Clerk got approval of letters for the schools and other nonprofit organizations as well as local merchants, and will get those mailed out during the week.
- The next Corfu Family day meeting was tentatively set for Tuesday, May 16 at 7:30 pm.
- Scott Lang and Al Starkweather left the meeting at 9:35 pm.
- Trustee Peterson informed the Board that he had purchased one thumb drive and requested permission to purchase two more for the increased Police force for the summer.
- Motion was made by Trustee Patterson and seconded by Trustee Sobczak to authorize Trustee Peterson to purchase two more thumb drives. Motion carried.
- Trustee Peterson informed the Board that he has set a tentative e date of May 15th for instituting the Police Officer Daily Logs. He mentioned that Officer Yueckstock showed him all the forms he has been working on in his own time and commended Officer Yueckstock for his diligence.
- Clerk Thomas left the meeting at 9:45 pm.
- Motion was made by Trustee Patterson and seconded by Trustee Peterson to go into executive session to discuss personnel matters at 9:46 pm. Motion carried.
- Motion made by Trustee Patterson and seconded by Trustee Sobczak to go out of executive session at 10:28 pm. Motion carried.
- Motion made by Trustee Sobczak and seconded by Trustee Peterson to adjourn meeting. Motion carried.
- Meeting was adjourned at 10:29 pm.
