VILLAGE BOARD MEETING MINUTES - MAY 9, 2006
Regular meeting called to order by Mayor Skeet at 7:10 pm.
Members present:Mayor Skeet, Trustees Patterson, Sobczak and Russ. Trustee Peterson was absent.
- Prospective part-time maintenance worker Phil Jenkins appeared before the Board at 7:20 pm. Some discussion was held regarding the duties involved in the position. Trustees posed several questions to Mr. Jenkins, including his availability to fulfill hours that he will be needed by the Village. Mr. Jenkins assured the Board that he would be available for a flexible schedule.
- Mr. Jenkins left the room at 7:45 pm.
- The Board held brief discussion regarding hiring Mr. Jenkins.
- Motion was made by Trustee Russ and seconded by Trustee Patterson to hire Phil Jenkins for the part-time Maintenance position. Motion carried.
- Mr. Jenkins was asked to rejoin the Board and informed of the decision, his starting pay and hours. He was also informed that he would be on 90 day probation. Mayor Skeet requested Mr. Jenkins to meet him at 9:00 am Tuesday May 9, so he could go through the Maintenance garage and familiarize him with some of his duties.
- Mr. Jenkins left the meeting at 7:50 pm.
- Prospective seasonal police officer Daniel Wood appeared before the Board at 7:55 pm. Mr. Wood gave a brief background on his qualifications. Trustees questioned Mr. Wood in several areas. He was informed of the possible time frame of the seasonal officer coverage. Mr. Wood informed the Board that he does have his own uniforms and bulletproof vest. He is also qualified on laser radar.
- Mr. Wood left the room at 8:15 pm.
- Board held brief discussion regarding hiring Mr. Wood for a seasonal police officer position.
- Motion was made by Trustee Patterson and seconded by Trustee Russ to hire Daniel Wood for the position of seasonal Police Officer. Motion carried.
- Mr. Wood reappeared before the Board and was informed of the decision to hire him. Brief discussion took place regarding possible hours. He will be informed as soon as Mayor Skeet and Trustee Peterson get seasonal schedule worked out.
- Mr. Wood left meeting at 8:23 pm.
- Prospective seasonal police officer Dave Cristofaro appeared before the Board at 8:25 pm. Mr. Cristofaro gave a brief background on his qualifications. Trustees questioned Mr. Cristofaro in several areas. He was informed of the possible time frame of the seasonal officer coverage. The possibility of utilizing Officer Houghton’s bulletproof vest for Mr. Cristofaro was discussed.
- Mr. Cristofaro left the room at 8:40 pm.
- Board held brief discussion regarding hiring Mr. Cristofaro for a seasonal police officer position.
- Motion was made by Trustee Russ and seconded by Trustee Sobczak to hire Dave Cristofaro for the position of seasonal Police Officer. Motion carried.
- Mr. Cristofaro reappeared before the Board and was informed of the decision to hire him. Brief discussion took place regarding possible hours and obtaining uniforms for him. He will be informed as soon as Mayor Skeet and Trustee Peterson get the seasonal schedule worked out.
- Mr. Cristofaro left the meeting at 8:45 pm.
- Mayor Skeet said he would contact Andy Houghton regarding the possibility of utilizing his bulletproof vest for Officer Cristofaro, and also check with Officer Yueckstock regarding date for qualifying at the pistol range.
- Bob and Jeff Ammon made a brief appearance regarding the possibility of the Corfu Firemen having a chicken BBQ at the Corfu Family days. They were informed there may be a possibility that the wrestlers may be doing one, but that we would contact Al Graham and verify as soon as possible and get back to them.
- Motion was made by Trustee Russ and seconded by Trustee Patterson to approve the minutes of 4/24/06 and 5/01/06 meetings.

- Motion made by Trustee Russ and seconded by Trustee Patterson
to make the following transfers in the General Fund:
- Transfer $436.50 from 1990.4 Contingency into 1420.4 Staff Law.
- Transfer $1134.00 from 1320.1 Police Personal Service into 3120.2 Police Equipment. Motion carried.
- Motion made by Trustee Patterson and seconded by Trustee Russ
to make the following transfer in the Sewer Fund:
- Transfer $624.00 from 1990.4 Contingency into 1440.4 Engineer Contractual. Motion carried.
- Motion by Trustee Sobczak and seconded by Trustee Russ to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.

- Trustee Sobczak informed the Board that he received a call from Dave Lange of the DOT regarding the problem on the corner and on West Main Street. Mr. Lange said they will be getting right on the problems and have them taken care of as soon as possible.
- Clerk presented the Board with the Sheet Metal Workers Police Contract signed by the Union.
- Motion was made by Trustee Patterson and seconded by Trustee Russ to authorize Mayor Skeet to sign the Sheet Metal Workers Police Contract.
- Mayor Skeet mentioned to the Board that a new constable needs to be hired. The decision was made to put an ad in the paper for the position. Some discussion was held on whether two constables were needed.
- Some discussion was held regarding setting the part time Maintenance hours. At present hours would be set at 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Monday – Friday, except when needed for Rolloff such as this coming weekend. Due to the late start in the week, this week they will request Mr. Jenkins to work Wed, Thur and Sat 9am – 1pm, and Friday from 12 noon – 6 pm.
- Mayor Skeet spoke to the Board about drainage problems, and that he had talked with someone that would like to demonstrate a machine that goes in the storm drain and cleans out the box. Once the boxes are cleaned out then we would use the Jetter to blow out the lines.
- Mayor Skeet mentioned that all Trustees and the Village Office would receive a Police Schedule once he and Trustee Peterson have it worked out. He also mentioned the idea of getting in car cell phones for the convenience of getting a hold of the officers so dispatch wouldn’t have to be used for nonemergencies. Trustee Sobczak said he would look into the various plans to see what would be most cost effective.
- Board decided to move Corfu Family day meeting from 7:30 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 16th due to the School Budget vote.
- Motion was made by Trustee Russ and seconded by Trustee Sobczak to adjourn at 9:40 pm. Motion carried.
