VILLAGE BOARD MEETING MINUTES - JULY 11, 2006

Mayor Skeet opened Family Day Organizational meeting at 7:10 pm.

Members present: Mayor Skeet, Trustees Peterson, Patterson, Russ, and Sobczak. Also present were Pat Newton from Potter Lumber, Village Historian Allan Starkweather, Robin from the Landmark House, Jack Schollard and Richard Doktor of Corfu VFW.
  • Board spoke with Mr. Schollard and Mr. Doktor regarding membership numbers of local VFW. They said there were approximately 97 total, 20 active. They were asked if there were any special projects they were involved in that the Village might be able to contribute to to show appreciation for all the veterans have done, such as a scholarship fund. They responded that they are currently working toward helping the DAV get a handicap accessible van fitted for wheelchairs and had recently made a $1000 donation towards that effort. They also mentioned they do sponsor a local scholarship through the school. Some general discussion was held regarding other projects the Local VFW has been involved in. They also confirmed that they will be sponsoring a Bounce House for the children at the Family Day at no charge to the children.
  • Robin of the Landmark House reported that they would like to help with the Family Day in any way they can, including allowing use of power and the back parking lot area for the Family Day function. She said they would also like to offer some specials on that day.
  • Rachael Russ arrived at the meeting at 8:00 pm.
  • Several other items were updated. Clerk Thomas will try contacting Pepsi again for possible banner and signage. Trustee Patterson gave price on possible water bottles to give to children that participate in Kiddie Parade. Certificates for Kiddie parade were also discussed. Trustee Russ said he would pick up a copy of the certificate at the office to see if a label could be made for the certificates.
  • Rachael Russ and Amy Skeet will be coordinating the Kiddie Parade. The theme of “Our Heroes” was suggested. Rachael suggested adding a coloring sheet to the Village newsletter for children to draw and color their hero to be put on display at the Family Day. She said she would design the sheet.
  • It was also suggested to add to bring own lawn chairs to event.
  • Status of tables and chairs was discussed. Fire department does have some tables and chairs available for the event. Mayor Skeet said he would get contact Scott Lang regarding the status of a tent and stage from Weilers.
  • Some discussion was held regarding donations for give-away prizes. The idea of purchasing gift certificates from local merchants was brought up. Clerk will contact comptroller regarding this issue.
  • Advertising was discussed. Clerk will get rates and date deadlines from various local media. It was suggested we contact Dorothy Lawrence about doing an article for in the Daily News about the event.
  • Next meeting date was set for Monday July 31st at 7:00 pm, as well as a meeting on Friday August 11th at 7:00 pm for final details.
  • Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm.
